The Ford Capri was the Ford Mustang of Europe. A mind boggling array of options meant that the Capri could be whatever you wanted it to be, just like the Mustang. The Capri was, in fact, a far more varied animal than the Mustang with engines ranging from 1300cc to 3100cc as well as a myriad of trim specifications. The most popular powerplant was the 1600cc straight six Kent engine. The Capri was released to the press on 24th January 1969 at the Brussels Motor Show. The Capri caused a sensation and would stay in production for 18 years, 1969 to 1987.
This Mk. I Capri was assembled in South Africa by the Ford Motor Company and was in long term ownership until five years ago when it was refurbished and repainted. This 70â s stunner presents well in Daytona Yellow with Perana black stripes, new black vinyl seats, new carpets, door panels and dash top, and sits on its original steel Rostyle wheels. The Vendor states that this 70â s time capsule doesnâ t appear to have suffered the ravages of time and has benefitted from new suspension bushes and shock absorbers, had a brake overhaul and drives very well. To complete the authentic look this Capri is even fitted with a period rear window louvre. As collectables in the classic car market place, interest in the Ford Capri, in all guises, has recently climbed strongly. This classic from the 70â s is presented with a V5C registration document and we are advised by the vendor will come to auction with a fresh MoT test certificate.
