The sleek superformed aluminium body of the DB9 was initially designed by Ian Callum but had also been significantly influenced by the next director of AM design, Hendrik Fisker. It was powered by a third generation version of the now familiar 6.0 litre, V12 and has a top speed of 186mph. The DB9 was the first of what was to become a long line of production Aston Martins to use VH architecture; using superformed parts in the chassis and footwell as well as the body panels. The individual die-cast, extruded or stamped aluminium elements of the VH platform are bonded with strong adhesives and self-piercing rivets to make a lightweight but stiff backbone. The DB9 body shell weighed 25% less than that of the DB7 but has double its torsional rigidity. This process also allowed Aston Martin to retain high levels of engineering accuracy in producing a car at a higher volume, ensuring chassis performance to match the engine power. Aston Martins have always made the interior of their cars to be very special places. The fine detail of finishing is typified by the starter button made of glass and sand etched with the Aston Martin wings logo.
This Aston Martin has had two former keepers and is in delightful order throughout. Finished in Tungsten with Blue Haze leather interior and a Grey Alcantara headlining, this car also benefits from carbon fibre trim and satellite navigation and a heated front screen. The service history of this DB9 is faultless with 11 stamps in the service book, all at Stratstone Aston Martin apart from one which was carried out by Grange of Exeter. The condition of this car is certainly commensurate with a car that has been lovingly cared for. Aesthetically a beautiful design, this DB9 is a splendid example and offers comfort, prestige and fun in abundance.
