In February 1991, Porsche released the 944 Turbo Cabriolet, which combined the Turbo S's 250 bhp engine with the cabriolet body built by the ASC-American Sunroof Company at Weinsberg in Germany. Porsche initially announced that 600 would be made, but ultimately 625 were built, 100 of which were righthand drive of these 50 are believed to of been supplied to the UK and the remaining 50 were sent between Australia, South Africa and Japan.The Porsche 944 Turbo cabriolet was built on the platform of the later 944 S2 series and was in fact one of the most powerful open top sports cars available at the time and with a 0-60 mph time of 5.7 sec and a top speed of 162mph, the 944 Turbo cabriolet is by no means any slouch even in todayâ s market. The Standard spec included Porsche anti theft, Blaupunkt Symphony stereo radio cassette player, air conditioning and Electric Seats and with a start price of £46,994 this made the car a direct contender for its brother, the 911 but at a higher price. This rare, beautiful and original Porsche 944 Turbo S Cabriolet spent most of its time in and around Exeter in the ownership of a local doctor who used it to commute between Devon and Cornwall for work and consultations; his only reason for sale was retirement and relocation to a smaller property with no garage. The car has been maintained fastidiously with the majority of work carried out by the main dealer, Porsche Exeter who also carried out engine work and fitted a new Turbo. With only four keepers from new, the car comes with an extraordinary full-service history with only the last two services carried out by an independent Porsche specialist, the last carried out less than 500 miles ago including a full service, cambelt, pulleys and tensioner changed and the brake servo overhauled. Finished in Alpine White with Cobalt Blue leather interior, a new blue hood and tonneau cover which was supplied and fitted several years ago along with a new roof motor, this 944 Turbo is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in November 2019, two sets of keys and immobilisers, the original handbooks, a service book with 20 service stamps in it and a file containing a number of invoices and old MoT test certificates.
