The Ford Capri was the Ford Mustang of Europe. A mind boggling array of options meant that the Capri could be whatever you wanted it to be; just like the Mustang. The Capri was, in fact, a far more varied animal than the Mustang with engines ranging from 1300cc to 3100cc as well as a myriad of trim specifications. The most popular engine was the 1600cc unit but the object of most desire was the three litre. The Capri was released to the press on 24th January 1969 at the Brussels Motor Show. There had previously been a press preview in Cyprus but Ford had requested that nothing about the new car be published until 24th January to coincide with the motor show. Surprisingly, this request was honoured and the Capri caused a sensation. The Ford Capri would stay in production for 18 years, from 1969 to 1987. This 1987 Ford Capri is one of the last and most sort after models, a 280 Brooklands, over the last six months it has been the subject to a full body restoration to a very high standard due to the owner seeking a show quality example. The history file with this motorcar is comprehensive and contains receipts, invoices and correspondence from the very first owner Mrs Cooper, who purchased the car from Gozzett Ford in Essex for £11,899.65, this is confirmed by the original supplying invoice. Mrs Cooper sold the car to Alan Stanley Jarvis of ASJ Capri Specialist who then sold it to Brian Meikle in Burton-On-Trent. Whilst in the ownership of Brian, according to records, the car was subject to a non structural insurance claim in 1996 which lists this car as category N. The car was then repaired and restored by Derby Autopaints, this included a full glass out repaint and a waxoil treatment underneath to preserve the car. Three owners later our vendor impressed with both the car and the provenance decided to cosmetically restore the car including new paint and thus the car presents fabulously today. Offered with a new MoT test certificate and in such fabulous order with traceable history from new, we think this is a very attractively priced example for which viewing is highly recommended.
