The 'Big' Healey enjoyed steady development, with the early four-cylinder cars giving way to the 100 Six in 1956, which in turn was replaced by the first of the 3000s in 1959. The new car featured an enlarged 2912cc version of Austin's six cylinder engine with twin SU carburettors and Girling front disc brakes, offering excellent performance resulting in the model becoming a great success. The 3000 was only referred to as the Mk. I once the Mk. II model was introduced in 1961. Other changes were minor compared to those between the original 100 and the 100-6. The wheelbase and body were unchanged as were the body-styles, a 2+2 or BT7 and a two seater BN7.
Bought new by a newly qualified dental surgeon in Northern Canada as a reward for qualifying, he kept the car for almost 40 years before selling it in 1999 to its second owner, a British expat, who in 2002 started a full ground up restoration. Due to an illness the restoration was delayed several times but finally completed in 2009. The work included a full bare metal rotisserie restoration with no area being neglected. The chassis was checked for correctness, sandblasted and restored to as new condition in the body colour. The engine was fully stripped and rebuilt, as was the gearbox. A new wiring loom was fitted and the interior also received a total retrim, including a ribbed tonneau cover and the car was fully resprayed.
This lefthand drive car was repatriated to the UK in 2017 by its third and current owner and presents stunningly in red with red and black interior. The car starts on the button and drives superbly with no rattles or squeaks, testament to the quality of the restoration.
A matching numbers example, this lovely car comes supplied with V5C registration document, a current MoT test certificate valid until May 2019 and a comprehensive history file including receipts from the rebuild, Heritage Certificate and photographic record of the restoration.
