The Lancia Flaminia was launched in 1957 and was the replacement for the Aurelia. It was available throughout its production as a, saloon (berlina), coup , and cabriolet (convertible). The hand crafted, aluminium bodied cabriolet, GT and GTL coup s from Touring of Milan were considerably more expensive than the Berlina models but the designs epitomised the style and design flair of the finest motoring designers of their time. The Touring built cars were easily distinguished by their four round headlights (rather than two on Pininfarina Flaminias) and a shorter wheelbase that was decreased significantly for the GT and Convertible, allowing for only two seats to be fitted. The GTL, introduced in 1962, was a 2+2 version of the GT with a slightly longer wheelbase. With double wishbones, coil springs and shock absorbers featuring on the new model, the carâ s performance was nimble and the ride comfort was superior against much of its rivals. The Flaminiaâ s engine was a continuation of the Aureliaâ s and worldâ s first production V6. Mounted longitudinally, the power was delivered via a rear mounted four-speed transaxle. We are pleased to offer this 1959 example of the Touring built Flaminia GT that has been in the current ownership for the past four years. Originally supplied to Libya as a 2500cc GT in 1959, the car was then imported into the UK in August 1970. Today, this Lancia presents very well, its coachwork, having recently been bare metal stripped and re-finished by one of the UKâ s leading Lancia specialists, Omicron. The finish, in Lord-Blue, is beautifully complemented by its striking red interior. Under the current ownership, the aim was to make a reliable long distance touring car. A 2.8 litre engine and transaxle replaced the original 2.5 litre V6 engine and transaxle; the original units will be available to be collected from the vendor by a new owner. The vendor informs us that the 2.8 litre engine has been rebuilt by Brian Randall Engineering and is virtually indistinguishable from the original unit and provides extra torque, a benefit whilst long distance touring. Further works have included the triple Weber carburettors, rebuilt by Omicron, new brake callipers, brake servo, clutch and a re-upholstered interior. In addition, new stainless steel items include, exhaust, fuel tank and bumpers front and rear. This Flaminia GT has been well and sympathetically maintained and comes with an extensive file of works and parts. Also included is a UK V5C registration document and we are further informed that this Flaminia, although exempt, will arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate. In the 1950s and early 1960s, these Touring built Flaminias were purchased and flaunted by the rich and famous and today, still are capable touring GTs. Perhaps a new owner may wish to drive this handsome example to the C ´te dâ Azur, a tempting thought during this November sale.
