Much of the Porsche 911's development had resulted from the factory's racing program, and it was the period Group 4 homologation rules, which required 400 road cars to be built, that spurred the development of 'Project 930' - the legendary 911 Turbo. In production from April 1975, the Turbo married a KKK turbocharger to the 3.0 litre Carrera RSR engine, in road trim a combination that delivered 260bhp for a top speed of 155mph. In 1978 the Turbo's engine was enlarged to 3.3 litres, gaining an intercooler in the process; power increased to 300bhp and the top speed, of what was the fastest accelerating road car of its day, went up to 160mph. But the Turbo wasn't just about top speed, it was also the best equipped 911 and amazingly flexible, hence only four speeds in the gearbox, being capable of racing from a standstill to 100mph in 14 seconds! The Turbo's characteristic flared wheel arches and 'tea tray' rear spoiler had already been seen on the Carrera model while the interior was the most luxurious yet seen in a 911, featuring leather upholstery, air conditioning and electric windows. More refined than hitherto, yet retaining its high performance edge, the Porsche 911 Turbo sold in the thousands, becoming the definitive sports car of its age.
This 1987 Porsche 911 turbo is offered in Grand Prix White with blue leather trim. A matching numbers example that has benefitted from a major service by Simon Furlonger in March 2017 at a cost of £2800 and has covered a mere 150 miles since. Our vendor a keen car collector states that it is beautifully presented and is very tight on the road reflecting the low mileage, which at the time of writing is approximately 45,600 remarkable for a car over 30 years old. E293 AJC was previously registered to Cotswolds Classics and was the personal property of the proprietor for many years, kept mainly in storage with few miles covered between MOTS as reflected in the history file before passing to our vendor, our vendor states that to his knowledge the car is largely original and has not been repainted.
This 930 looks and drives beautifully with a recent MOT passed with no advisories, an iconic turbo that will appeal to collectors looking for a unmolested and largely original example with low owners and low mileage in one of the most desirable colour combinations of the period. Accompanied with the car are its original hand books service books and manuals along with a Porsche certificate of authenticity. Becoming increasingly rare to find in this condition mileage and provenance we feel this is a very special, iconic example.
