Mulliner Park Ward was one of this countryâ s most respected coach-builders and, therefore, unsurprising that one of Englandâ s most elegant of manufacturers, Alvis, should form an alliance with them and go to build some of the most beautiful motorcars of their age. The skilled and meticulous craftsman employed at the time offered an attention to detail and finish that could not be contemplated on a production line and this continued with the TE21 in 1964. The obvious change from the previous TD21 was the two vertical headlamps. A simple adjustment you may think but this required a slightly higher wing line and, when you consider that the whole front end of the car is a single piece of hand-rolled steel, represents much work during the production process.
Delivered in 1964 to a Mr. Hull in London, it went through three further owners before its current West Sussex-based owner acquired it in 1977. He used it to travel up and down to Scotland. Well used and well maintained at the time, it was then stored at home for 17 years until now. It underwent a poor re-spray in a previous life and had a Webasto sunroof fitted, previously, in 1973 with notes detailing additional works undertaken within the history file. It currently runs well and sits on good Vredestein tyres. The interior is showing its years but the leather is not damaged or torn and the driving experience is congenial. Offered without reserve, this would obviously benefit from some restoration but represents an exciting opportunity nonetheless.
