The Austin-Healey 3000 was built from 1959 to 1967 and is the best known of the 'big' Healey models. The car's bodywork was made by Jensen Motors and the vehicles were assembled at the BMC Abingdon works. The 3000 was a successful car which won its class in many European rallies during its heyday and also ran at Le Mans during that period; as such it's still used in competition by enthusiasts today. Introduced in March 1961, the 3000 Mk. II came with triple SU carburettors and an improved camshaft; designated the BT7 Mk. II (2+2 seat version) and BN7 Mk. II (two-seat version). However, upon the introduction of the BJ7 model in January 1962, the number of carburettors was reduced to two, mainly due to the problems experienced with balancing three carburettors.
This fabulous original righthand drive, UK supplied Austin-Healey 3000 Mk. II is presented in the distinctive colour combination of black over ivory with a red interior. It has overdrive in third and fourth gears, a wood-rim steering wheel and has had just six previous owners from new which is charted in the history file. When reviewing the history file it is apparent that a considerable amount of money has been spent ensuring the car always remained in very good condition, the file includes a photographic record/history of the works undertaken, including invoices. The engine was rebuilt in 1970, 1991 and more recently in 2010 in conjunction with a complete gearbox rebuild. When the engine was rebuilt its power output was uprated with DWR camshaft and triple SU carburettors. The cylinder head was converted to run on unleaded fuel and some other upgrades were carried out including an electric cooling fan, alternator and stainless steel exhaust, thus resulting in a superb engine that exhibits good oil pressure and coolant temperature. The chassis and body were treated to a professional rebuild by a Healey specialist in the late 1990s. The bodywork and chrome are in good condition and the wire wheels are original as is the factory hard top. This is a wonderful example of this iconic British sportscar which is both practical and fun to drive and is also presented with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate.
