On 29th August 1974, Louise Pi «ch, daughter of Ferdinand Porsche and the mother of Ferdinand Pi «ch, got a very special 70th birthday present, a Porsche 911 in silver metallic. What made this car special, not indistinguishable from a normal 911 at first sight, was the badge â Carreraâ at the rear. The body was standard and only the rear wing gave a hint at what was special under the body. In the tail was a 3.0 litre engine with a turbo charger. At that time, nobody imagined that the turbo would be what it is today. In 1986, Porsche finally offered the Flatnose, called â Flachbauâ in German, straight from the factory. The official designation in the UK was Turbo SE, also sometimes referred to as the Slantnose. Offered as the ultimate 930 Turbo, this model had an upgraded body and a 330bhp engine. Costing nearly double the standard model, the Flatnose was rarely ordered. Before 1986, Porsche had offered the Flatnose body option from its customer service department known as â Sonderwunschenâ . These were handmade cars, not limited to just the Turbo, but the Carrera and Carrera SC as well. Despite the panels being slightly heavier, they were modelled after the Porsche 935 race car for top speed. The conversion required extended rocker panels, wider rear flares with scooped vents and flip-up headlights up front with functional louvres.
This righthand drive Porsche 930 Turbo was supplied new in the UK in 1980 and was then exported to Australia in September 1986 where the front wings and over body panels were replaced to create the Flatnose option. This very good example has spent much of its life under a single, very careful ownership, covering just 40,000 miles between 1980 and 2011. In 2011, the car received a full engine and gearbox rebuild before being shown across Australia, touring with the Porsche Ownerâ s Club. The owner was a true Porsche fanatic and because of this, carried out much of the servicing himself to an exceptionally high standard. The last owner had the car serviced by reputed Porsche master technicians, Cavarco Motors of Glebe in Sydney, before the car was returned to the UK in 2015 and it has been in a private collection since. Finished in grey with black leather interior, the car is supplied with a V5C registration document and an MoT test certificate which expires in April 2019. A unique and outrageously stylish 930 Turbo, this is a real head turner with the power to match.
