The Flaminia Coup was introduced at the Turin Motor show in 1958, nearly two years after the saloon. The styling was based on the Aurelia Florida designed by Battista Pininfarina and considered by many to be his most influential design, it was also his personal favourite and he drove one for the rest of his life. Flaminias initially had a single 'carburettored' much modified version of the Aurelia all alloy V6, initially with drum brakes but disc brakes replaced the drums early on. Triple carburettors replaced the single in 1962 and the Flaminia became the Flaminia 3B, the power went from 119 to 130bhp, in 1963 the engine was enlarged to 2.8 and the power was raised to 136bhp. The suspension consists of unequal length double wishbones with coil springs at the front and a De Dion axle at the rear, based on the all-conquering D50, this combined with 50/50 weight distribution due to having the engine at the front and gearbox and differential (transaxle) at the rear, made for excellent handling with light and direct steering. This particular car was first registered in Rome in 1963 and then moved to Sicily some 15 years later. The car has covered 96,000 kms, approximately 58,000 miles and is completely original, it has never been welded and even has the original battery tray, which is usually the first part of these cars to suffer from corrosion. This Flaminia has undergone much recommissioning work including new rear brake calipers, rebuilt starter motor, completely new exhaust system, overhauled carburettors, re-furbished wheels, new battery, new brake fluid, coolant, oil changed etc. We are informed the car drives extremely well and the gearbox works well and is very quiet. The white paintwork has a beautiful patina to it and retains an excellent shine, a finish that would be impossible to recreate. The rear bumpers and overriders have been re-chromed and the front ones also present very well. The chrome/stainless steel around the windows is extremely good and as far as we are aware, has never been off the car. Also, there is a working electric aerial. The interior is completely original and very tidy, it is also fitted with optional electric windows that work, which is rare! The wheels have been refurbished and all five tyres are new. In the boot, the rubber mats are all present, correct and undamaged, also present is the spare wheel and jack. Considered the best driving of all Flaminias; a view shared by Peter Harding, one of the most respected specialists in the UK, this car demonstrates this fact sublimely. This example certainly represents good value against the Touring and Zagato bodied cars which these are sure to follow. A complete set of over carpets were made at great expense with 'Flaminia' embroidered into them. It is important to note that all the engine, gearbox, chassis etc numbers have been confirmed as original via Lancia Classiche, a certificate of which is in the history file.
