The R107 and C107 took the chassis components of the mid size Mercedes-Benz W114 model and mated them to the larger engines from the W116 S-Class. The SL version was a two-seater roadster with standard soft and hardtop, with optional folding seats for the rear bench. The SLC (C107) derivative was a two-door hardtop coup with normal rear seats. The SLC is commonly referred to as an SL Coup , but in reality it was an S-Class Coup , replacing the former saloon based 280/300 SE Coup in the Mercedes-Benz line-up. The SLC was replaced earlier than the SL, in 1981, with a much larger model, the 380 SEC based on the new S-Class. Sales in North America began in 1972, with the name 350 SL, but with a larger 4.5 litre, V8 engine and subsequently it was renamed 450 SL/SLC.
This attractive Mercedes is one of the last of the mighty 450 SLC to be sold in the UK, having been registered on 1st January 1980, by the famous Mercedes Benz dealer, Woking Motors. Supplied with a number of factory fitted options such as metallic paint, electric sunroof, Bundt alloy wheels and leather upholstery. The car would have been stratospherically expensive from new, which accounts for their rarity verses their drophead counterpart, the SL. With 64,000 miles recorded, the car boasts continuous and uninterrupted history from new, with service work by authorised dealers such as the supplying Woking Motors, but also with Jacksonâ s in the Channel Islands and Monarch in the Midlands, as well as reputable specialists, including Mercedes enthusiasts, Philip Welch. All the manuals, including that of the no doubt state of the art at the time, Phillips Turnolock stereo, service books, dealer directories etc. are all present and correct. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until October 2019. The value of the 107 shaped Mercedes-Benz has strengthened considerably in recent years and the SLC is beginning to be recognised for the outstanding car that it is.
