The W124 was designed to last many miles with awards actually given and worn by high mileage versions. Much of the 124's engineering and many of its features were advanced automotive technology at its introduction, incorporating innovations that have been adopted throughout the industry. It had one of the lowest coefficient of drag (Cd) of any vehicle of the time due to its aerodynamic body which included plastic moulding for the undercarriage to streamline airflow beneath the car, reducing fuel consumption and wind noise. It had a single windscreen wiper that had an eccentric mechanism at its base that extended the wiper's reach to the top corners of the windscreen.
This blue car is an excellent example, specified with the desirable options of an electric factory sunroof and mushroom leather interior. One owner from new, registered on 25th January 1995 with mileage of only 105,000 over 25 years (4,200 per annum) and with a full Mercedes-Benz service history by Caffyns of Dorchester. The owner purchased his first Mercedes-Benz, a 220 â fintailâ in 1959, that car was collected direct from the factory in Germany, followed by a trip around Europe before being shipped back to South America. Four new 220/280â s followed, culminating in the current car purchased new in Dorset in 1995 in preparation for his retirement. The 1,997cc petrol engine with automatic transmission provides sprightly performance and this is an everyday classic that could be good for another 100,000 miles with ease and in comfort. Supplied with a V5C registration document together with a current MoT test certificate valid until August 2019, this E200 benefits from four new tyres, it is entirely appropriate that this Mercedes-Benzâ s enthusiastsâ last example will be sold at Mercedes-Benz World.
