The history of this revolutionary motorcar is well known and its impact socially, culturally and mechanically is well documented. The Swinging Sixties, The Beatles, Twiggy and the Mini are inexorably combined to represent an era that is remembered with great fondness by many people. Very few classic cars have seen such a meteoric rise in values as the Mini has over the past five years. The Mini holds an iconic place in British motor car history and in the hearts and minds of any driver, it is safe to say no other car can spark a conversation in the same way with many people having owned a Mini and likely to have a story or two to tell. On its introduction in August 1959 the Mini was marketed under the Austin and Morris names, as the Austin Seven and Morris Mini Minor. The Austin Seven was renamed Austin Mini in January 1962 and Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969. The early Mini's have become particularly sought after with early examples difficult to find in original condition. This early floor start Mini was purchased new from Comerford's of Thames Ditton by a Mr Hampton, passing in 1988 to the second owner, who registered the car at his own address but under his brother-in-law's name. The vendor used the Mini for around six months before having two new wings and a floor pan welded in and the car fully resprayed by Chamberlain's Coachworks of Surbiton, Surrey and 478 TPE was used only once or twice annually after which kept mileage low. The third owner purchased this example in 2012 and reupholstered the car in the correct material to preserve originality. Our vendor then purchased this Mini in 2013 and spent his time ensuring that mechanically the Austin Mini is in fine fettle with works including a re-ground crankshaft, new shells and pistons and re-bored engine, accompanied by a new dynamo, water pump and brake shoes. The car is offered with dating certificate and we strongly recommend viewing of this rare early Seven to appreciate the quality and originality. Offered at no reserve it is sure to be well received.
