The Jensen Interceptor is a sporting GT-class car that was hand built at the Kelvin Way Factory near Birmingham between 1966 and 1976. Jensen had extensively used glass-reinforced plastic for the fabrication of body panels in the preceding two decades but the new Interceptor saw a return to a steel body-shell designed by an outside firm, Carrozzeria Touring of Italy. The early bodies were Italian built by Vignale before production by Jensen themselves in West Bromwich began with subtle body modifications. The Interceptor took its styling cues from the Brasinca Uirapuru, with a distinctive large, curving wraparound rear window that doubled as a tailgate. The original specification included electric windows, reclining front seats, a wood rimmed steering wheel, radio with twin speakers, reversing lights and an electric clock. Power steering was included as standard from September 1968.
Introduced in 1974 and with only 267 examples manufactured, the convertible Jensen was produced predominantly for the American market. This example was repatriated in 2014 and is finished in silver with blue leather trim, blue Wilton carpets and a blue hood. Presenting in excellent order throughout this Interceptor III looks great and sounds superb when the V8 engine bursts into life. An iconic car of the period, these stylish cars are becoming increasingly popular, particularly when they are as good as this example.
