Introduced in 1966 principally for the Italian market, where smaller capacity cars were rewarded with tax breaks, the GT 1300 Junior utilised an 89bhp version of the earlier Giulietta twin-cam engine and proved enormously popular, some 90,000 were built all-up. In 1972, Alfa Romeo reintroduced the 1570cc twin-cam four into the 105 Series line-up with the GT 1600 Junior, both models displaying a remarkable willingness to rev and the same sweet chassis and handling abilities as their bigger brothers. The 1600 Junior also saw the same styling revisions, including refinements made to the nose, still with twin headlamps, improvements to the interior and the twin-binnacle dashboard as previously introduced on the 1750 Sprint. In total 14,299 GT 1600 Juniors were built, making this one of the rarest 105 Series variants produced. This particular car was supplied as righthand drive for the South African market and records show it was manufactured in January 1975. When imported to the UK the car subjected to some further improvements both mechanically and cosmetically including a full rotisserie restoration carried out over five years. A full photographic records showing this is contained within the history file. This car is presented in Alfa red with the optional black leather Veloce interior and has been fully rebuilt and re-conditioned. This Italian beauty has had an engine upgrade to 1750 specification, the engine much adored by Alfa enthusiasts, and regarded by many as the best engine unit made. Offered to auction with an Alfa Romeo Classiche Certificate, Heritage Certificate from Alfa Romeo Italy and a V5C registration certificate. This is a car with a huge fun factor and is an essential part of any Italian classic car collection.
